Head line palm reading
The head line is the horizontal crease across the middle of the palm, starting near the thumb side — often joined to the life line — and running toward the outer edge. In palmistry it is read as thinking style: how you weigh ideas, make decisions and focus. It says nothing about intelligence.

The head line sits between the heart line above and the life line below. It usually begins on the thumb side of the palm, at or near the start of the life line, and runs across the centre of the hand.
Whether it starts joined to the life line or separate from it is itself a traditional reading: joined is read as caution and careful first steps, separate as early independence.
What the shape of a head line traditionally means
Here is how palmistry traditions interpret the common shapes. Use them as conversation starters rather than conclusions.
- Straight head line
- Read as practical, structured thinking — lists, evidence, one step after another.
- Curved or sloping
- A line that dips toward the wrist is read as imagination: thinking in pictures, stories and what-ifs.
- Long head line
- Traditionally read as thoroughness — turning a question over for a long time before deciding.
- Short head line
- Read as quick, decisive thinking that prefers doing to deliberating. It is not a measure of ability.
- Forked head line
- Often called the writer’s fork: read as seeing both sides and being able to argue either.
- Broken or wavy
- Read as shifts in focus or a mind that changes lanes often. A description of style, never of capacity.
