Palm reading chart with every line labelled
A palm reading chart is a map of the hand showing where each line and mount sits. The heart line runs across the top under the fingers, the head line across the middle, the life line curves around the thumb, and the fate line climbs the centre. The mounts are the padded areas at the base of the thumb and fingers.
- Heart line — top crease, under the fingers
- Head line — middle crease, across the palm
- Life line — the arc around the thumb
- Fate line — vertical, up the centre
- Sun line — short vertical, under the ring finger
- Mount of Jupiter — pad under the index finger
- Mount of Venus — pad at the base of the thumb
- Mount of Luna — outer lower palm
How to use a palm reading chart
Hold your open hand next to the chart, palm facing you, and match the big shapes first: the curve around the thumb, then the two creases that cross the palm. Once those three are placed, the fainter vertical lines are easy to find.
Every hand is drawn differently, so treat the chart as a guide to where to look rather than a template your hand should match. Lines that are missing, doubled or joined are ordinary variations, and each has its own traditional reading.
The lines on the chart
Four major lines appear in every palm reading chart, and the sun line is the most common addition.
- Heart line
- Top horizontal crease, from the little-finger edge toward the index finger. Read as feelings and close bonds.
- Head line
- Middle horizontal crease, starting near the thumb side. Read as thinking style.
- Life line
- The arc around the base of the thumb. Read as energy and daily rhythm — not lifespan.
- Fate line
- Vertical line up the centre toward the middle finger. Read as direction. Often faint or absent.
- Sun line
- Short vertical line under the ring finger. Read as creativity and being seen for your work.
The mounts on the chart
Mounts are the raised pads of the palm. Palmistry names each after a planet and reads how full or flat it is.
- Mount of Jupiter
- Under the index finger. Read as confidence, ambition and taking the lead.
- Mount of Venus
- The large pad at the base of the thumb, inside the life line. Read as warmth, generosity and appetite for good things.
- Mount of Luna
- The outer lower palm, opposite the thumb. Read as imagination and intuition.
Left hand chart or right hand chart?
The chart is the same for both hands, mirrored. Tradition reads your dominant hand as who you are now and your other hand as where you started, so many readers chart both and compare.
